Hemingways Ol Seki Mara Camp

This private tented camp bordering the Masai Mara is an enclave of luxury in the wildest terrain of Kenya. Hemingways Mara has a choice of 10 exclusive tents in which to host you and the entire 200km square of Naboisho Conservancy to reveal exclusively to you.

Accommodation

Nina Tent

These tents are ideal for couples. The high dome centres over a double bed decked out in fine linens. Six opening panels encompass the bed on three sides which means that from the comfort of your pillow, you can watch the dawn break in panorama.

Simba Suite

The Simba Suite is a self-contained penthouse in the bush with a private driveway. Complete with kitchen, dining room, living area which connects two enormous double bedrooms, both ensuite, you could house your family here while on safari or just sprawl out in the extensive luxury of a private suite all by yourself. There’s a fully stocked bar and fridge and you can decide the level of service you require – Hemingways Mara can provide a tent attendant to be present at all times to cook, pour your drinks and make coffee or you can have the freedom to help yourself to the amenities.

Chui Suite

This suite offers greater individual privacy than the Simba suite as the two ensuite double bedrooms are separated from the central living space. The main area between the bedroom tents houses the kitchen, lounge and dining room. The three distinct structures are connected by wooden boardwalks. This means that if other members of your party want to stay up late in the private bar, you can retire to the quiet seclusion of your room next door with a comfortable distance between you and the hub of activity. This suite is ideal for families or friends travelling together who would also like some privacy within the group.

Library Tent

This is the quintessential safari scene that has remained largely unchanged for a century or more – no modern technological interruptions of digital noise or flashing images. Find yourself in the warm glow of the paraffin lanterns and candlelight, the hazy bush noises singing in the background as you survey the Koyaki plains. Now compare yourself to other safari-goers over the ages, captured in sepia images in coffee table books. Or contrast your experiences to those described in racy fiction of heady safari romances and dangerously wild encounters. The Library Tent’s shelves offer a variety of Africana – fiction, educational books about local tribes and traditions, guides to wildlife and photographic accounts of East African history.

The Deck

Descend from the Library to the low deck, following the lantern-lit pathway. From this ledge where the evening camp fire blazes, you have an excellent view of the waterhole and the stars. Many warm evenings have been whiled away here in canvas safari chairs

Dining

Dining Tent

With a near panoramic view of the acacia scrub beyond your table as you are served freshly prepared food from our kitchen, the dining tent will excite your senses. Breakfast offers a healthy continental buffet which includes home-made museli and freshly cut exotic fruit or a hearty and familiar English breakfast. Evans, the Hemingways Mara chef will be on hand to prepare your eggs exactly as you like them. Lunch might be a tasty risotto or quiche with fresh herbs and salad from our organic vegetable garden. Supper is sumptuous and Evans’ repertoire is extensive but be sure to sample his famous coffee marula mousse. The camp manager hosts you during meals and this is a convivial time to ask questions and meet other guests.

Private Dining

On occasions, you might prefer the solitude of a private al fresco meal on the deck of your tent in the morning air or by candle-light. In the Nina tents, Hemingways Mara will serve you from the kitchen and one of our waiters will attend to you unobtrusively. In the Chui and Simba tents, Hemingways Mara can give you a private chef for the night who will cook in your personal kitchen and serve you at your own dining table. This is ideal for family time or intimacy.

Bush Breakfasts, Picnic Lunches and Open Air Dining

The kitchen is totally mobile so don’t be surprised if you find the restaurant floor is the grassy plain of the conservancy one evening or if the kitchen one morning is transformed into a tree trunk and trestle table. Hemingways Mara’s specially designed safari coolers and hampers make for the most luxurious picnic lunches too. The eating is not confined in camp so Hemingways Mara will amaze you with the most spectacular settings for your meals.

Excursions

The privilege of a private conservancy is 200 square kilometres to explore exclusively. Rarely do you encounter another vehicle, until you head into the Masai Mara National Reserve. Naboisho is your secluded wilderness, away from the flash and chatter of tourists. There’s so much to discover – the big five reside here alongside myriad wildlife indigenous to East Africa. As well as the wild birds and beasts and plants, you might like to meet the local Masai herdsmen and their families and learn about their pastoral way of life. Hike and visit a N’dorobo cave, watch birds, photograph the sunset, dine under the stars and soar above the plains in a hot air balloon.

Landscape
Naboisho means “coming together” in Masai and the name explains how this conservation area was created. It’s a community driven alliance that protects the flora and fauna of this precious region and supports the landowners and farmers through tourism.
Ol Seki’s tents are on platforms on a ridge. The 270-degree view from all the tents takes in the slope of the acacia scrub where animals graze in the shade of the sparse trees. Beyond the immediate vista, the Ngama hills hem the horizon to the east and beyond lie the plains of the Masai Mara which border Tanzania and the Serengeti. Situated at the north-eastern tip of one of the finest eco-systems on the planet, Naboisho is a healthy region of biodiversity – shining grasses which nourish the migrating herds between the rains; forested banks of seasonal rivers; rocky outcrops where the hyraxes hide.
